After the requisite Saturday morning market trip, we actually went out and played tourist yesterday. Friends of ours were going to ride the cable car that climbs the foothills near our housing compound on the southern edge of Ashgabat and invited us along. The set-up is quite modern with doors that open automatically while the car is off the actual cable at the stations at the top and bottom. The little girls bounced excitement off one another. Of course the air was cooler at the top and there were great views of both city and field to be taken in while we snacked on Russian salads and french fries in the little restaurant.
