May 1, the first Sunday after Easter, was Divine Mercy Sunday. This year I actually remembered that the novena for this feast starts on Good Friday. The Divine Mercy image and devotion were revealed to a Polish nun named St. Faustina. It was promoted by Polish Pope John Paul II. I think for this reason, May 1 was selected as the date for his beatification. The priest showed us a picture during the mass of John Paul II blessing the future cornerstone for the church in Ashgabat. Father Andrew, who is also Polish, took this stone to the Vatican years ago in the course of his duties.
When May 1 does not fall a week after Easter Sunday, then it is often the day for May crownings, since May is the month of Mary. The Nuciature has this beautiful image of the Holy Queen.

Finally, May 1 is International Labour Day, the Feast of St. Joseph the worker.
